| Biography: |
Barbara
van Druten creates illustrative paintings, digital art & more.
After Barbara van Druten graduated at the Academy of Visual Arts
in Maastricht, the Netherlands (1999) in Visual Communication, she
persued a specified study in illustration at
the artacademy in Prague (VSUP).
After these educations she lived in London and Cambridge where she
gained more experience in the field of illustrative painting.
Her
work is surrealistic, naïve and contains a lot of fantasy. The digital
illustrations are very mysterious, while the illustrative paintings
are known for their bright colours.
Since than she has had exhibitions in London, Prague, Brussel, Miami,
Frankfurt, Barcelona, Sevilla, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Milan, The Hague and
Leiden.
She
has had publications in different international magazines,
newspapers, and on TV. Newspapers and magazines like for example,
The Scotsman, the Elegance, the Haagsche Courant, Flair, Marie Claire
etc.
Her work was published as bookcovers by the GLB-publisher. In September 2010 'My daddy lives in Africa', childrens' book, illustrated and written by Barbara, has been published by David&Goliat. She has done different assignments for companies
like Jim Thompson' restaurants, the ING-bank, Damum UK, Amnesty
International, Acacia Institute, BCN, Options
International, but also clients, who gave her specific
assignments for (personal) paintings, digital illustrations, websites, flyers, company-styles,
painted furniture for children, birthcards etc.
Among other jobs, she has worked as
a webdesigner at e-Vision and as an art director at PanelChannel.
Barbara was nominated as Flair-woman-of-the-year and won the Siemens
Contest. Her
work was sold in several countries and is part of different collections, like the collection at the Latin American Art Museum in Miami. Barbara entered several auctions, for different purposes, like the Ronald Macdonald House, ROKPA and radio 3FM. From the money
collected from the sale of her painting at 3FM, families were reunited
in Congo.
Barbara was a member and initiator of POPA (www.popa.nl).
POPA is an acronym for POsitive PAssion. POPA is an art-movement
founded in Leiden, the Netherlands, the birthplace of the world-renowned
Dutch artist Rembrandt. The vision behind this movement was that
of three women; Barbara van Druten, Susana López and Soon Ja Terwee.
Susana López passed away in March 2007.
POsitive PAssion otherwise known as POPA was a movement that wished
to create positive feelings through an eclectic mix of creativity
and art. The paintings
seek portray acceptance of cultural, religious & ethnic diversity
that exists in our world today. 10% sales price of their works of art was be donated to different organizations
